AutoXray:  Finding Money Within Your Organization

AutoXray was faced with reengineering its product line on an extremely limited budget.  The ramifications were that it would take twice as long to finish the task.  However, the second generation product was completed to the amazement of many competitors giving the company new legs to run on.  AutoXray had to come up with a creative way to pay for the packaging and marketing of the new products.  After bootstrapping the reengineering of the new OBD-II platform, the company had no cash reserves to even print one box let alone the first run of two thousand.

GD Mac was had just been contracted and learned that the President of Autoxray had started using a simple user upgrade mailer that was being sent to current customers.  The mailer announced the new product in addition to including an exceptional offer to upgrade to the new platform. This offer was met with a great reception. The simple mailer banked over $600k in revenue with better than 80 points margin on the each sale.  Our task was to apply some previous direct mail knowledge to maximize the return on the campaign.

One of GD Mac's fundamental mantras is "repeat what is successful."  It had been our experience that direct mail offers should be repeated three times to maximize response.   We gained this knowledge from our experience with direct mail campaigns at Automap.  We found that AutoXray's results repeated our expectations, the subsequent two mailing brought in approximately $300k and $150k. That's an additional $450k in latent revenue that was desperately needed, enabling the company to develop the marketing materials necessary to launch the new platform at retail. Timing is everything!

AutoXray had just received it first $1 million dollar order from a national automotive retailer. There was no packaging, collateral or support material. GD Mac's task was to come up with a complete marketing revamp for everything; AutoXray had five weeks till first shipments were due.

Clear the decks miracles had to happen, and did.
